Tournament Info Update

We hope you’re all excited for our tournament in less than a month! Here are some important updates for all competing teams; please read through everything carefully.

Tournament Guide

We have compiled a Tournament Guide with all essential tournament-related information for your convenience. The biggest update is that we will not be using Scilympiad this year, and instead we will be using Gradescope for scanning/uploading answer sheets. This change is also detailed in the guide.

Release Form

Please complete the release form here. All competitors must fill out the information at this link and finish signing the release form in Docusign.

Builds

Detailed build device testing information is coming soon, but in general, build events will work as follows. For the initial submission, teams have virtually infinite tries to submit a video with clear demonstration of their performance and their check-in process as well as a self-scored spreadsheet the ES will verify based on the video. Most videos are to be submitted by 1/16/22. Important: some events require you to film and submit at a specific time window during the week of 1/10/22 - 1/16/22. There will be multiple windows to accommodate different teams’ schedules/availability.

T-Shirts

You can purchase a T-shirt for $10.13 each through here by 1/26/22.

For In-person Teams Only

New MIT COVID policies due to the omicron variant require all individuals coming to campus to have received their COVID-19 booster if eligible. As MIT has been updating their policies recently due to the omicron variant, please be flexible in your planning for coming to campus. We will notify you on any policy changes that affect our in-person component of the tournament. Thank you for your understanding.

Team List Released

The team list for the 2022 MIT Science Olympiad Invitational has now been posted!

2022 Tournament Date

We are pleased to announce that the 8th annual MIT Science Olympiad Invitational Tournament will take place on Saturday and Sunday, January 22-23rd, 2022. We currently plan to hold the tournament in-person at the MIT campus. However, with the ongoing situation with COVID-19, we may transition to an online format depending on MIT guidelines and state/national policies. We will make corresponding announcements if there are any changes to the tournament format. In case of an in-person tournament, we will be running all 23 Division C national events, including lab and engineering events. All events will be written, reviewed, and run by Science Olympiad alumni currently at MIT, national tournament event supervisors, and/or former Science Olympiad competitors from the highest level of competition. This means that coaches will not be required to write tests or otherwise volunteer at the invitational, leaving them free to focus solely on coaching their own teams.

Registration will open on Wednesday, September 15th, 2021 at 6 PM ET and will close the following Wednesday, September 22nd at 6 PM ET. More details about registration will be available on our website closer to the date. Teams will be notified of their acceptance on Monday, October 4th, and a public list of participating teams will be announced on Monday, October 11th. In the event that we change to an online format, we may accept additional teams at a later date.

We will guarantee acceptance of schools that meet either of the following qualifications:

  • Schools that have placed Top 10 at the MIT Invitational the previous year
  • Schools that have placed Top 10 at the National Tournament the previous year

We look forward to the upcoming season!
